As many as 305 species of birds
are known to breed in or visit the New Zealand region. Some of these
birds such as the tui are found nowhere else in the world. Feathers,
fantails, kiwi, tui, morepork and the NZ wood pigeon are favourites in which
their characteristic shape and features have been taken and made into
